Free zones across the Middle East and Africa offer compelling incentives — full foreign ownership, tax exemptions, simplified licensing, and streamlined customs procedures. But the decision to establish in a free zone rather than onshore is not simply administrative. It determines who you can contract with directly, how your profits are treated, what approvals you will need, and whether your structure will remain efficient as the regulatory environment evolves. Several major free zone frameworks changed materially between 2022 and 2024; structuring decisions made on older advice may no longer be optimal.
